Stabilised Cellulose has proven to be a major success since Natracel introduced it to Australia and the results have been spectacular, a real bonus to home owners. The stabilisation process has now become the standard by which Cellulose Insulation is installed in the USA. The Federal Trade Commission investigation into the whole insulation industry resulted with companies required to Guarantee the Thermal Resistance Rating they were contracted to provide. This will become mandatory in Australia when the new Standard comes into force later this year.

Installers of blow in cellulose as well as batt type insulation now must specify the height and settled density of their insulation. It was alleged that fluffing of blow in products and lower density batts appear to give the correct depth on the day of installation. The insulation then settles to a height and density which is below the amount required to provide the Thermal Rating they were expecting.

This is the main reason Stabilisation was introduced. Specialised equipment is used to inject fine mist spray of fire retardant adhesive binder into the insulation as it is being installed.

This provides a settled density that ensures the correct “R” Rating. The added moisture to the fibre is not enough to even dampen the ceiling or ceiling joists. It will not even adhere to the ceiling or electrical wiring which is a problem when only applying glue to the surface of the insulation after it is installed

The most pleasing news has been the other advantages. It is a much cleaner product that is easier to handle. Fine particle dust is eliminated during installation and the insulation is great to work with when ceiling maintenance or extra electrical work is required. This is ideal for a new home where modifications to electrical requirements are likely.

Stabilisation limits settling and shrinkage so the insulation maintains higher thermal resistance. A much more user friendly product that is guaranteed not to blow around or move for the life of the building. Over all it has been a huge success and we are extremely pleased with the positive response from our customers.
